U.S. Projects

We accomplish our mission by directly providing services to children, youth and families in need and through grants awarded for projects proposed both by individuals and organizations in the U.S. and internationally.

 

 

 

 

Today's Family Making After School Time More Productive

Children's Fund began providing support for summer camps and after school programs in Montgomery County, Maryland in 1997. In 2001, Children's Fund continued to be involved with afterschool programs in Maryland through this local charity under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Nyang. In 2002, Children's Fund provided support for a planned program to teach TV production skills to youth to help them acquire part time jobs during the year and summer employment.
 

 

 

 

College Readiness Academy of Washington, D.C.

To support the education of outstanding students in the District of Columbia, Charles Lewis through the Friends of International Education, received a grant for start-up costs related to funding for a new private or charter school.
 

 

 

 

Dos Pueblos Leadership Intercultural Relations Project

Children's Fund/Recognizing Youth as Resources one-time grant to promote dialogue among the diverse student body at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California.

 

 

 

 
ESL Training Project We All Smile In One Language

Children's Fund accepted a proposal from an elementary teacher for an ESOL Curriculum Development Project. This one-time grant enabled the recipient to publish a book for educators, parents, and students authored by ESOL students. The book was to be used for in-service training for teachers at Sudley Elementary School in Manassas, Virginia.
   

 

 

  Transition Assistance to Independent Living for Foster Care Child

Children's Fund awarded a one-time grant of $875 to a group home for foster children in Salem, Virginia to pay three months rent for a young woman to move from the home to her own residence. This grant was provided to assist her in transitioning to independent living.
   
 

 

 

 

Musical Arts Society Performances

Children and youth were provided an opportunity to perform with members of the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, D.C.

   
 

 

 

 

Teacher Training for DC Public Schools

Children's Fund received a one-time grant from the Humanities Council
of Washington, D.C. to establish a coalition of distinguished educators
and scholars to plan an interdisciplinary professional development
course for DC teachers. The course was developed to inform teachers of
basic facts of DC history and to provide teaching strategies that would
enhance students' classroom experiences.
